Fire Protection Publications (FPP) is a mission-driven, values-based organization dedicated to the production of high-quality educational content for the international community of firefighters and first responders. FPP is an Engineering Extension unit of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University.

We are looking for the right individual to serve as an Accounting Specialist. As the Accounting Specialist-Sales and Use Tax Compliance, you will file monthly and quarterly tax returns assigned by states for all goods sold. The tax returns are filed through the individual states tax sites as required. This individual will also maintain the Tax software used at FPP. The tax management software houses all tax records for taxes collected per order and the exemption certificates for clients. This position will be responsible for tax returns, tax reports and state registrations. This position will work with other departments to ensure tax compliance through OSU and FPP systems. The person in this role must have an attention to detail, the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and manage projects and deadlines.

This position is based on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater, OK. It is an office-based position; remote and hybrid work are not currently an option for this role.


Areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Process Sales and Use tax returns monthly for all states. These returns are required monthly or quarterly as required by the state. Register Fire Protection in states as required for compliance of state tax laws. Manage the tax license by state for initial registration and on going renewals as needed. FPP will be required to register and file in 48 states at this time.
  • Reconcile collected taxes with Avalara and FPP Accounting software. Maintain Avalara Tax Software for FPP. Provide tax reports as requested and work with OSU tax compliance office as needed.
  • Assist with other areas of the accounting office as needed for support and special projects.

Qualifications:

High school degree/GED and two years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping. Post-secondary education may be substituted for years of required experience. Excellent oral and written communications skill. Ability to work independently and in teams. Compensation:

Compensation for this position will be based on the work experience, skills and abilities the selected candidate brings to the position. The current hiring range for Oklahoma State University is $14.50 – 19.00 per hour.
