Warrenton, VA (July 31, 2018) Essentials of Community Risk Reduction is a new, free, online course where fire fighters and officers can learn the basics of Community Risk Reduction that they can use on the job every day. This self-paced course, developed through a partnership between The Vision 20/20 Project and IFSTA ResourceOne, helps fire fighters gain a better understanding of the importance of Community Risk Reduction to the fire service and to the community.
Being a fire fighter is so much more than responding to fires and medical emergencies – it is helping to make the community a safer place to live and work. By taking Essentials of Community Risk Reduction, fire fighters and officers can “get ahead of the call” by learning best practices for installing smoke alarms, new fire safety technologies, proven fire and life safety messages and much more. In addition, this course offers the basics of model performance measures for proving that your CRR programs work.
This free course can be an integral part of a training program for any fire department to develop or improve their CRR efforts, from recruit training through officer continuing education.
Essentials of Community Risk Reduction is divided into four modules, and students can earn a Certificate of Completion to document their professional development.
- Module 1 – Community Risk Reduction
- Module 2 – Fire and Burn Prevention
- Module 3 – Preventing Home Injuries
- Module 4 – Achieving Model Performance
