Jonathan Lund is the Fire Marshal for the Des Moines Fire Department. Prior to his promotion to Fire Marshal in June of 2013 he served as the department’s first Fire Protection Engineer. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University (BS in Fire Protection Engineering & Safety Technology) and Drake University (Masters of Public Administration). Additionally, Jonathan is an Executive Fire Officer, Certified Public Manager, Licensed Professional Engineer (Iowa & Texas - Fire Protection) and graduate of the International Association of Fire Chief’s (IAFC) Executive Development Institute. He has previously served as the President of the Hawkeye State Fire Safety Association and the Iowa Fire Marshals Association.

Cindy Brakhage, retired Fire Protection Publications senior editor, was awarded the Marvin L. Austin Distinguished Leadership Award during the International Fire Service Training Association’s 89th Annual Validation Conference on July 9, 2022.

Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, U.S. Fire Administrator and past IFSTA Executive Board member, was awarded the John W. Hoglund Award during the International Fire Service Training Association’s 89th Annual Validation Conference in July 2022.

The election of officers for the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) National Advisory Committee (NAC) was held in Washington, D.C., on Friday, April 8, 2022.

Fire Protection Publications Director, Craig Hannan, was elected NAC Chairman, effective immediately. This is a one-year term and a person is limited to serving a maximum of two consecutive terms. Previously, Hannan served as the vice chair of the NAC for two consecutive one year terms beginning in 2020.

John W. Hoglund served as the director of the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute for 22 years, from 1970-1992, and as Director Emeritus until his passing in 2020. Hoglund was a nationally renowned leader in the fields of firefighting education, fire prevention and public safety.
