Gordon Lohmeyer serves the IFSTA Board of Directors as a representative of the North American Fire Training Directors.
Jonathan Lund is the Fire Marshal for the Des Moines Fire Department. Prior to his promotion to Fire Marshal in June of 2013 he served as the department’s first Fire Protection Engineer. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University (BS in Fire Protection Engineering & Safety Technology) and Drake University (Masters of Public Administration). Additionally, Jonathan is an Executive Fire Officer, Certified Public Manager, Licensed Professional Engineer (Iowa & Texas - Fire Protection) and graduate of the International Association of Fire Chief’s (IAFC) Executive Development Institute. He has previously served as the President of the Hawkeye State Fire Safety Association and the Iowa Fire Marshals Association. Jonathan currently represents the Missouri Valley Division of the IAFC on the International Code Council’s Fire Service Membership Council and is the past Chair of the Executive Committee for the Central Iowa Code Consortium.
Chief Mary Cameli to lead the International Fire Service Training Association as the Executive Board Chair.
Mary Cameli, Fire Chief of the Mesa Fire and Medical Department in Phoenix, Arizona, was elected as the International Fire Service Training Association Executive Board Chair during IFSTA’s 89th Annual Validation Conference on July 9, 2022. Chief Cameli is IFSTA’s first female executive board chair.

Cindy Brakhage, retired Fire Protection Publications senior editor, was awarded the Marvin L. Austin Distinguished Leadership Award during the International Fire Service Training Association’s 89th Annual Validation Conference on July 9, 2022.
Dr. Kenny Fent, research industrial hygienist at NIOSH and commander in the U.S. Public Health Service, was awarded the Dr. John Granito Award for Excellence in Fire Leadership and Management Research during the International Fire Service Journal of Management and Leadership’s Research Symposium held in conjunction with the 89th Annual IFSTA Validation Conference on July 9, 2022.
Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, U.S. Fire Administrator and past IFSTA Executive Board member, was awarded the John W. Hoglund Award during the International Fire Service Training Association’s 89th Annual Validation Conference in July 2022.
Tonya Hoover, deputy U.S. Fire Administrator and past IFSTA Executive Board member, was awarded the Everett E. Hudiburg Memorial Award during the International Fire Service Training Association’s 89th Annual Validation Conference in July 2022.
The election of officers for the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) National Advisory Committee (NAC) was held in Washington, D.C., on Friday, April 8, 2022.
Fire Protection Publications Director, Craig Hannan, was elected NAC Chairman, effective immediately. This is a one-year term and a person is limited to serving a maximum of two consecutive terms. Previously, Hannan served as the vice chair of the NAC for two consecutive one year terms beginning in 2020.
Marvin L. Austin joined the Homewood, Illinois, Fire Department in 1954 and served as their training officer for many years. He worked his way through the ranks of the department until his retirement as assistant chief in 1971. Chief Austin joined the Illinois Fire Service Institute in 1960 and taught at their fire college for more than 20 years. His courses included salvage, aerial ladders and elevated platforms, pump operations, apparatus tests, maintenance and specifications, and many more. He also served on the IFSI Advisory Committee.
