Steve Ashbrock recently retired as Fire Chief of the Madeira & Indian Hill (OH) Joint Fire District, serving in that capacity for 19 years. He has previous fire service affiliation with the Reading (OH) Fire Department, 5 years as Fire Chief. He has a total of 43 years active fire service experience.
Steve has a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Cincinnati and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer (EFO) program.
He is Chairperson of the Ohio Fire Executive (OFE) program Oversight Committee. The Ohio Fire Executive (OFE) program, in its 24th year of operation, is a development program for junior/ascending fire officers in Ohio. The program is sponsored by the Ohio Fire Chief’s Association Charitable Trust. The OFE program was honored by the International Association of Fire Chief’s as its Outstanding Fire Service Program for 2003.
Steve has been a member of the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Executive Board since 2007, and has served the association as Board Chair. His IFSTA experience includes work with the following manuals: Essentials (4th and 5th Editions), Fire Department Safety Officer, Fire Fighting Foam, Chief Officer, Strategy and Tactics, 3rd, and most recently Company Officer, 7th.
Steve’s fire service experience is broad and has had impact across the fire service mission, to include Incident Command, EMS, hazardous materials, technical rescue planning and response, emergency response communications, firefighter fitness, officer development, and performance evaluation. He is a founding member and past Commissioner of the Hamilton County, Ohio Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force and served as chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for Search & Rescue for the Ohio Fire Chief’s Association and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
He is a past member of the faculty at the University of Cincinnati in the Fire Science Degree and in the Pre-Hospital Care programs.
